A striking feature of Holocaust Museum gunman James Von Brunn is his occupation as a painter. Von Brunn is apparently a member of Mensa, the elite IQ club, and a decorated World War Two veteran. A biography states he obtained a recognized Bachelor of Journalism degree and worked as an advertising executive and film producer in New York.He is also a painter of some pretension whose work is exposed on Askart.com The discussion board and profile on this artist was pulled off-line after the shooting but one quote on the bullboard stood out :
”Your act today cements the fact that creativity does not have anything to do with the soul”
This is a question that presupposes the existence or non-existence of the soul. If creativity is mutually exclusive from a soul then the source of creativity has to be rooted elsewhere such as the imagination which is inspired by ….?

Von Brunn Painting
Von Brunn’s art is unusual in that this particular work represents the figurative and abstract in the same canvas. There at least three crosses represented . It is also unusual to have at least two additional paintings within the painting. The small painting in the middle ( with the white frame) appears to be someone with a heil-hitler salute. The painting is not original but is certainly not mediocre. It is tempting to say Von Brunn’s art suffers from a banality which is the incarnation of evil but this pretense can be refuted ;despite an execution that lacks polish such as the hands of the woman in the yellow dress.
