United We Stand

Norman Rockwell style photograph from the Katrina hurricane disaster without the sentimentality. Tanisha Blevin, 5, holding 105 year old Nita Le Garde’s hand. Notice the look of determination of the two. Hard to say who is leading. This portrayal of the American narrative is not reassuring and far too common. The men with semi-automatic rifles and the two young boys in the trolley convey a sense of anarchy, chaos and loss. Not sure if this received a Pulitzer nomination that year.
