(see link at end) Is there such a thing as an “un-armoured” tank…About 106 armored tanks were delivered to Yemen’s defense ministry, state sources affirmed, pointing out that about 12 armored vehicles were also brought to Yemen to protect the US Embassy….

—Standing defiantly on a fenced-off piece of land sits a huge T-34 Russian tank painted in black and white camouflage. The tank is named Stompie after the murdered South African teenager Stompie Muketsi Sepei. The tank was recently painted pink by Aleksandra Mir and the Cubitt artists. This art installation ‘Tank Talk’ had comparable contexts with two previously painted pink tanks in Prague; the first painted by local artists as a symbol of subversion in 1968 and the second to celebrate the Velvet Revolution in 1989.—Read More:http://www.visitmap2.co.uk/sites/clients/bermondsey/detailpage.php?pid=4
The sources said the tanks were delivered to Yemen through Hodeidah port on last Saturday, affirming that the tanks were brought to Yemen in the framework of cooperation between Yemen and the United States.
The sources denied that the tanks were transferred to the US Embassy .
They added that the vehicles were brought instead of vehicles destroyed by angry protesters against the embassy last month.
Yemeni protesters stormed the US Embassy on September 13, ruined and looted some of its contents in protest against the US-made film offensive film on Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him)….

…I had a real “palm to forehead” moment, reading this.
The lousy movie, and the way it characterized Islam’s Prophet Mohammed, may have been the spark, but the tinder was dry, and ready to burn, long before this.
First, let’s do the math.
The M1 Abrams Battle Tank is a spectacular piece of military machinery and power. It also comes with a healthy price tag, though. The M1 Abrams tank costs the military a total of 4.3 million dollars per unit. In general, the price remains fixed as only General Dynamics Land Systems produces the M1 Abrams. Abrams tanks have been seen in several wars including the Gulf War, the Iraq War, and the Afghanistan War
So, the US government has spent, give or take, $455,800,000 of your taxpayer dollars on these tanks to shore up one of the most corrupt governments in the region.
There has been no real change from a standpoint of the quality of life in Yemen from the time the former “President for Life” Selah literally had to hot-foot it out of town, and President Hadi has taken over.
Grinding poverty, illness, lack of education, and lack of health care are still the order of the day for the Yemenite people.
IF the US government collectively had a shred of sense, they would be doing the following with that kind of money: they would be distributing desperately needed food and medicine in Yemen in such a way that Hadi couldn’t give it to his cronies to sell on the black market. They would be developing infrastructure, roads, hospitals, and schools, and investing in education for Yemenite kids. They would be “encouraging” the Yemenite government toward more transparency, and a political system in which the Yemenite people could actually be heard….
…The only reason we are in Yemen at all is to stem any unrest which may well spill over into Saudi Arabia, which is having its own difficulties, courtesy of a tone-deaf and sclerotic monarchy, which is not addressing the needs of its people for work, and some kind of say in the direction of its domestic and foreign policies.Read More:http://whatreallyhappened.com/content/about-106-us-tanks-delivered-yemen
…There is also the consideration that the Yemen ruling class, much like the Saudian Arabian rulers, needs at least high school leaving, or vocational equivalent to operate the Abrams which effectively precludes them from joy riding….
