…The house on the cover of Iris Murdoch’s last novel is Knole House in Sevenoaks, Kent. Knole House was the home of Vita Sackville-West, a writer and gardener, and member of The Bloomsbury Group in the 1920s. She was the lover of Virginia Woolf.
An appropriately sedate and “klassy” design treatment, with a black-on-black (gloss on matte) decorative pattern on the panel/banner livening up an otherwise straightforward treatment. My clever plan, brilliantly realized, was having the photograph DO ALL THE WORK! Double black and metallic ink tritone approximating a gelatin silver print-type feel.
