pinned to pavement

… Charles Eames (1907-1978)!

This issue of the UK magazine Architectural Design features a thematic celebration of the work of Charles and Ray Eames. The cover has them “pinned” (like collected butterflies) to the pavement by chair leg bases of their design. These two were already undisputed giants of the industry, yet they didn’t take themselves so seriously that they couldn’t have a little fun even at their own expense. When do you ever see designers of their stature (not their generation) do that these days? You don’t.
