Harry Bennett

Bennett rendered over 800 covers for gothic romance novels in the 1960s and 1970s, but his literary and pulp noir cover work cannot be underestimated, especially the eight Pocket Books covers for Donald Westlake’s Parker series—starting with The Hunter in 1962 to The Handle in 1966 (along with four Parker covers Robert McGinnis did for Fawcett/Gold Medal in 1967-69, making for one of the most electric-looking hard-boiled paperbacks-in-series of all time). Some of Bennett’s covers feature black-and-white supplemental illustrations on their back covers. Bennett was also a big-time advertising illustrator, working on memorable campaigns for Pepsi and Keds. In recent years Bennett has been a noted gallery painter.

Bennett’s son Tom, is also an established painter and has been featured in several one-man (and group) shows.
