Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

Thank you so very much
for the joy of learning to read and such
Sounding out words, even with verve!
And for the funny pictures we wanted to touch

Now all grown up, cynical too
Your books made into bad movies meant to sell products
Not to teach children but to make profits
Not what they were meant to do

I think not! I won’t support it!
Making Dr. Seuss into a corporate brand
is awful, boring and bland!
Can Ted Geisel survive it?

Yet you remain on the page
unchanging and true
My own child will learn to read as I did
Thanks to you.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
