Nice to Delta paint paint back on track. At one time it really was “America’s Favorite Craft Paint,” as they slogan on every bottle. It was such a hot commodity at one point and then it just died; sent out to pasture like a black sheep. The company ceased production and began contracting the make of paint and mediums outside. The colors changed, the quality dropped or was at best inconsistent and something we used to import by the pallet every month was almost obliterated from the market. Now, Plaid has purchased Delta and this seems like a good fit. Plaid always made good paint but lacked a brand that could be peddled outside of Walmart and appeal to more serious craft artists.
It seems like Delta paint starting to take off again and hopefully they will give the leading competitor and dominant firm, DecoArt a good chase. If we had showed the Old masters like Titian or Poussin the craft paint market and all the hundreds of wacky colors, glitter, twinkles, sparkle glazes, neons, dimensional writers, triple thicks, instant age varnishes, either they would have freaked out and filled a shopping basket or jumped into the nearest river, never to put brush to easel again.
