fins and dinged tins

Jesse Marinoff Reyes :

Canned goods label, for the aptly named L. A. Fish & Co. of Jonesboro, Maine—perhaps named for Lucia Fish (b. 1890), the daughter of George Washington Gates Fish and his wife Lizzie Madge Drisko Fish—ca. 1930s-1950s. The sunburst motif is certainly current with the design-isms of the 1930s though it may have served as a template for product labels over time.

  1. Mike Smith says:

“According to Barbara Fish, daughter of Clarence Fish, the L.A. Fish & Co. was given the name after Lynn Albert Fish, oldest son of Henry “Ben” Fish. Lynn was considered the president of the company until the business was handed down to Clarence Fish, his youngest brother. It was then renamed C.E. Cish Co. The Jonesboro History Book tells the story and can be purchased at the Jonesboro town office” – Linda Varney
